Introduction
Vibriosis problem
of Penaeid larval stages usually started in Zoea 2 (Zoea syndrome).
The larvae will stop eating for 3-5 days without moulting to the next
stage. Symptoms are white larvae without lipids and faeces production.
The mortalities can go up to 80-90%.
Even with the use of antibiotics or disinfectants, some bacteria will
still survive because they have resistant
genes. Over a short period of time, antibiotic resistant
bacterial strains develop and flourish, under the condition where there
are no competitors.
No commercial hatchery can completely exclude bacteria from their larval
rearing systems. The idea behind probiotic
application is to introduce an ecosystem of
beneficial bacteria to the culture system. These non-pathogenic bacteria
will occupy the various ecological niches and compete with potential
pathogens.
Vibrio Guard Hatchery (CFU 2.1 x 109/gm) is a product which contains
selected naturally occurring bacteria
designed to compete and prevent the proliferation of
undesirable vibrio and luminescent vibrio, which helps to protect the
shrimp from disease. Vibrio Guard Hatchery
also contains powerful multi waste-digesting enzymes
and specifically selected strains of enzyme-producing bacteria to degrade
all the principle organic constituents normally found in shrimp and fish
hatchery.
Dosage
& Administration
Vibrio Guard Hatchery is a dry product containing live but dormant microorganisms.
Prior to using the Vibrio Guard Hatchery, it is recommended that
the product to be “hydrated” to activate the microbes. The inert
carrier in Vibrio Guard Hatchery may cause
cloudiness of hatchery water. To avoid this,
it is recommended that the hydrated Vibrio Guard Hatchery, mixture
be filtered through a 65-mesh (210 microns) screen. The microbes will
stay within the filtrate, which can be added
directly to the water.
The hydration process simply involves
-
Mix
the required amount of Vibrio Guard Hatchery in 3-5 liters of
warm (20°C-30°C)hatchery water. Do not use
water containing chlorine or other disinfectants.
-
Gently
aerate the mixture for 30 minutes by using an aerator.
-
Filter
away the carrier and recover the microbe containing filtrate.
-
Add
the filtrate to the hatchery tank water.
Aerated
form of product is to be used within 30 minutes of mixing. It
is very important to use Vibrio Guard Hatchery
EXACTLY AS DIRECTED.
